nursing bras

Only four weeks left until D-day and everything is ready for your baby’s arrival. The nursery is decorated, baby showers have taken place, and late night construction of the baby crib is completed. The diaper stacker is stocked and the dresser is loaded with cute baby clothes galore. As for yourself, even though you know you won’t be wearing your pre-pregnancy jeans home from the hospital, you eagerly anticipate no longer wearing maternity clothes. It seems as though all the bases are covered, but many new mamas-to-be forget to buy nursing bras in those last few weeks of pregnancy. Don’t make that mistake unless you relish the thought of shopping for bras with engorged, leaky breasts and a newborn in tow.
Typically the best time to shop for nursing bras is during months 8 and 9 of your pregnancy. Most likely, by this time, your breasts will have grown to the approximate size they will be after your baby is born and milk comes in. Most manufacturers recommend you purchase nursing bras in the same bra size you are pre-pregnancy as they are adjusted for your growth. If you are able to try the nursing bras on it is much easier to know if that bra size actually is correct or if you need to go up a size or two.
Trying nursing bras on will help you decide what style of bra you prefer as well. Underwire nursing bras are nice for extra support and lift, but can be uncomfortable if you wear them constantly. Some doctors recommend avoiding underwire bras as the underwire can restrict flow of milk. Nursing bras in a sports bra style are generally very comfortable but not quite as supportive as an underwire bra. A balance of these two styles would be a regular style nursing bra without the underwire. Most likely, you will want a few nursing bras in different styles and not resort to just one kind. Also keep in mind that your breast size may reduce some during the first year so you may have to get a smaller size later on.
Also popular and practical are nursing bra tanks. These tank tops have breast support and detachable straps like a typical nursing bra. The convenience of this type of nursing bra is stomach coverage while breastfeeding, which is warmer and more discreet. This style of tank top also can be very nice for sleeping as you still need breast support at night.
Until you are actually breastfeeding it can be somewhat difficult to know what style of nursing bra will work best for you or how many you will need. But you will be very glad you at least researched and tried on some options in advance. Even if you find two different kinds of nursing bras that you like, buy one of each. You can try them on in the privacy of your home after baby is born to make sure they still fit and then buy however many pairs you decide you will need without having to deal with dressing rooms. Now you really are ready for baby’s arrival.
Where can I get large size nursing tops/bras?
Even before pregnancy I was wearing a DD bra. Now at 9 months, I’m in a G size, I am planning to breastfeed and I need very large sized bras and also nursing shirts which are big enough (beyond XL). Does anybody know where I can find these? Thanks for your help!
You’ll need to find a lingerie boutique… they can order one for you…
I have a similar problem… after I had my son I was a size H cup (still am)… but I’m also sice 32 around… which is unique!
They can order you a bra if they don’t have it in stock… I just got a Medela one… maybe you can order online? I was size F before pregnancy… and now I’m H since I started breastfeeding…
(just to give an idea of how much you can go up!)
Goodluck! (I feel your pain!!!!!!!!!!!)
Another great place to shop for nursing bras products is Amazon. They have more than just books!

Ultimate Brasaver Protect your bras while they’re being washed. When you’re washing your bra in the washing machine, it can be quite the process. You wonder if it’s going to get caught on the agitator, the drum or if it’s going to get squashed and ruined under the weight of other clothes and items. |
