When purchasing the shower decorations try to match it to the theme as closely as possible. What are some inexpensive ideas for hosting a baby shower?
I am on a budget and throwing a friend a shower. I want to make it really nice because she is pregnant and going thru an awful divorce. She has (obviously) been under alot of stress and I just want to make the shower beautiful for her. It will be a small shower at my house but I want to have food, table decorations that are classy looking, and a cople of fun games to play~

Here are some tips for a great shower that won’t break the bank!
1) Have the shower around 2pm…and just serve finger foods (instead of a lunch). 2pm is late enough that no one will misunderstand and expect it to be a lunch! Serve nice appetizers, veggies and dip, punch and CAKE.
2) If you don’t have a theme just go with a simple one that is easy to work with. Target, actually, has some really great baby shower decorations. Streamers are always nice, coordinating plates and cups. Make a diaper cake (or buy one, if their is room in your budget!) and make this the focal point/center piece of that particular spot. Lay the food out is a way that is decorative. Balloons are fun and I think you can buy a disposable helium tank for around $20.00 at Wal Mart (you could a few months ago, anyway) and get about 40-45 balloons out of that (save some more money!).
3) Invitations: Create your own online. Buy some cardstock and have fun making a custom invitiation or find some nice stationary on sale and hand write them out!
4) Games: Keep them simple and tasteful. I, personally, am not a fan of the Taste The Baby Food game…..or the what chocolate bar looks like poop in the diaper game. Some people are into that, use your judgement. Baby Bingo is always nice and I have a great FREE link to a template on my website, too. Make it special by including some sentimental activities.
5) Play some great lullabyes or contemporary songs about children in the background (burn a CD?) and then give that to mommy, too! I know I listened to music ALL THE TIME when my daughters were newborns and up at 2 in the morning. (We danced a lot….love the music).
6) Take some great photos….make sure mommy gets those after the big event.
7) Have an advice book for the guests to fill in. They can include their best wishes and tips for the new mommy.
***Most of all throw the party with all your love and I am sure your friend will be most appreciative and touched. Don’t worry about how much money you spend, the time and effort will always shine brighter than big ticket items!
