2nd pregnancy: Is it appropriate to have a baby shower?
I’m on my 2nd baby and a friend has offered to throw me a shower. I wouldn’t ever turn it down. That’s rude and unappreciative, plus I could really use some help w/ the baby items. BUT…I’ve heard that baby showers are only appropriate for first time pregnancies.
I know it’s a free country and all, but I was just wondering etiquette wise if this was true.
She’s also suggested that if I didn’t want a big traditional shower, we could do a luncheon or something w/ close friends only.
Any suggestions/advice?
I think they are absolutely appropriate. Is one birth more important then another? One child more important? Certainly not! Don’t just consider what family or friends may think, consider ten years from now when you are going through baby books and the second child wonders where their baby shower pictures are? What gifts did they receive? Who gave them their favorite blanket? If you actually need something for this new child, then it’s all the more appropriate, you’re not doing it for show you’re doing it to benefit your new baby.
