Pop this question during the first date, and most men will assume your biological clock is ticking fast and loudlyÂ—and thatÂ’s not a good thing. Help me! I shouldn’t want to be a Mother?

I’m 17 and in full time education. I keep having really strong maternal instincts. I used to hate children, but for the last couple of months I’ve been wanting a baby so badly. (I lost a pet recently and I was wondering if it was something to do with not having anything to look after or nurture that I miss) I really love naming things as well, so I keep coming up with loads of baby names that I like. Help me! How can I get over these feelings?

(Also, does anyone know any realistic online baby games I can play? Where I can name a baby and look after it? Hopefully I can get bored of that and it might put me off)

i think it’s wonderful that you’re analyzing from where you’re getting these feelings and i think you’re right about it being the result of grief at losing your pet and yes, it’s normal; i also think your hormones are kicking into overdrive because of your age so yes, normal too.

good for you for thinking it over instead of rushing out to get pregnant (like happened with someone know who became a grandmother at 36!).

does your school have the “baby think it over” program? many schools do, where they give you a computerized baby you have to care for and it simulates a real infant (with the crying and the screaming and the hunger and the diapers and so on).

if they don’t, try the Old Skool approach: get yourself a chicken egg. from now on, that egg is your “baby”. you have to keep it consistently warm, you have to “feed” it, you have to rock it, you cannot leave it ANYwhere unsupervised, and so on. get your mom or someone else to set an alarm clock to go off at random intervals – this is what it’s like having a crying baby wake you up. get them to set a second alarm to go off after a random time period ranging from a minute to 8hrs. this is the alarm that tells you the baby’s finally stopped crying.

or you could always get a puppy.
