how do you best hang a rectangular piece of cloth on the ceiling so that it makes the shape of a smile?
I have a piece of decorative cloth for my baby’s room that I would like to hang, but we have a popcorn ceiling and wasn’t sure what was the best way to hang it so that it drapes nicely like a canopy over the bed.
Conduit or dowel rods and appropriate connectors to attach to ceiling. Think outside the box at the hardware store, there are all sorts of things you can use in plumbing and electrical and the nail, screw aisle. You may can just use a cup hood and monofilliment……..aka fishing line. ( Depending on the weight)
Take out the ol’ sewing machine and make a “hem” so that your dowel rod or conduit will fit inside. Make sure that the unfinished edge is “up” so it doesn’t show from below.
Thread the dowel rod in the Hem or “pole pocket”
If you think the cup hooks will support the weight use the cup hooks on both the dowel and the ceiling and attach using the monofilliment to the height you wish.
Do this on each side of the fabric…………..
OR even more simple, buy two curtain rods, make the pole pockets in your fabric and hand the curtain rods on your ceiling using all the curtain rod hardware and thread your fabric on the poles…..
The closer you place the rods, the deeper the “smile” will be.
